As Nick said, depends on final product. If you are asking because you are seeking a supplier, the yards I use are fairly local to you.
Apart from oak flooring I buy most of my timber sawn and finish and shape myself.

Bill, thanks for those. I checked out A Grade and its a brilliant resource. Tyler is just down the road from me on the way to Hungerford, will check there too. I have been using a saw mill as a source as it is reasonably close but I haven't a planer/thicknesser an d the wood is generally a bit unique in shape and size :)

Glad you found A Grade despite me getting the name wrong :oops:
They can be a bit offhand if you turn up with I small order when they are busy, I find it is best mid to late morning after they have picked big orders for Jewsons etc. If you are lucky they will let you select your own timber (depends on who serves you) but they will let you reject anything you don't like. Never had a delivery so can't comment on that.
