The reason I say it is depressing tonight. Is that the unimaginative planners have insisted the couple build a house that looks exactly the same as the god awful properties around them. Such a shame that in this day an age they don't allow people to be creative when it comes to house design.

It's a travesty that planners made such a poor decision regarding the exterior design. They should be sacked!

Context is all, though, isn't it? For example, a brutalist lump would not be at all appropriate in a Cathedral close of Georgian houses, and a Georgian-inspired villa would be out of place in a row of thatched cottages. A thatched timber-framed house would not be right in a city row of townhouses, and a city townhouse would stick out like a sore thumb in a suburban avenue.

Sorry, but I disagree there. Challenge convention and be different, otherwise, people will look back and it all looks the same.

Just down the road from me is a half mile Victorian avenue with one (50s? 60s?) bungalow stuck in the middle. I suspect someone knew to which councillors to give their virgin daughters - It doesn't half look out of place. There is a lot to be said for conformity when in close quarters.

I think a lot of money must change hands when it comes to the architecture of some of the modern buildings recently, most of those look like a blot on the landscape compared to their surroundings!

The only alternative to the above scene is to make more new building land available. Then those that can could build modern structures, and some cities in the world look marvellous to me with those modern designs.

Is this show sponsored by sterling board ? It seems every week they show houses with osb cupboards or walls. Personally I think it looks disgusting.

I quite agree with flanjab. The property in question is not in the middle of a boring estate but was described as being on a small plot at the edge - I assume that the original estate developers didn't consider it to be financially worthwhile to build on it.

We need to be looking forwards and not being so boringly conservative.

They obviously like it - and remember that one size doesn't fit all!

No dont get me wrong I agree, have what you like but normally these shows will give a different idea on each job. Where as they've used sterling board on three houses now zzzzzzzzzz lol

I did our kitchen with Sterling board 20 years ago, and now I am on trend!

I certainly don't want some body expressing their creative dreams in my line of sight.

People in ugly houses have the privilege of looking outwards. It's the poor neighbours who have to see the thing!

I do agree with the others posts on here that OSB looks ruddy aweful. Must be like living in a large shed

I've only seen one of the programmes but the lady had very little to spend.
OSB was the cheapest solution - I don't think she had much choice?
