I recollect Chippendale carved too, also the episode on Thursday, The Master, Grinling Gibbons is worth a look too, he also sculptured in stone.
 
Google Tilman Riemenschneider. I touched one of his altars when I was 16 (46 years ago) and I remember it as if it were yesterday. Absolutely awesome - how to feel extremely humble in one easy lesson.
 
There's an interesting bit about 13 minutes when a chap is looking at two chairs and commenting why one is superior to the other. His comments about the curve on the back leg are the thoughts of a curator. A maker would see things differently, and recognise that the entire back assembly is referenced from those two short flat sections, and to make that style of chair without those flats is an order of magnitude more complex still.
