Hi all

When I visited Tony recently he told me about some fittings that he had bought from Screwfix for a few pounds and said how useful they were.

This set me thinking that we all must have tips such as this for items that we find invaluable and assume that everyone else uses them.

OK, so what do you buy from an on-line supplier for under a fiver that you find invaluable?

I have not limited it to Screwfix but I have added on-line so that everyone can get hold of these invaluable items.

Cheers
Neil

PS There is no prize.

I got a very nice plank of sycamore for a fiver...................................................... but dont mention it to Tony as he sometimes geta a little techey

Hi all

OK, time to get this back on topic

This is the tip that I received from Tony, it is a very cheap M6 nut insert: -

Yes use them a lot. (fingernail Gouge Jig for instance), Every time I place an order with screwfix for a job I stick a fivers worth of items such as this on the list and it makes one hell of a lot of difference when you can get on with a "fixit" job straight away.

Can recommend, (differing sizes)

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro ... 2&id=66403 I usually go for the longest screws, you can always cut them down.

And a few 1 mtr. lengths of 6 & 8 mm threaded rod with washers and wing nuts to fit.

Better than paying postage for an order just under the free delivery price break.

Ha hum. I may have mentioned them in the past...

In a similar vein to that and Chas', can I recommend these for the desperate trying to fix a saw? And these with a wooden handle/knob turned, whittled or otherwise fashioned on the wood screw end make great knobs for jigs. I also find thumb screws handy, but that's getting over the fiver mark, albeit well under for them individually.

I had to look twice at this statement, but then thumb screws would be useful if lots of resistance to the push down the slope is found.

I think Alf has them in mind for certain people who resist her thinking on bevel up planes!
Nope. I use the Iron Maiden on them...

Cheers, Alf

Who evidently needs to clear up her position on the bevel up plane thread.
