Thanks again to everyone for some great advice :? I'm now off to do the deed. I'll report back if you're interested SWMBO has given me a little more lea-way. I think she's getting the hang of this new venture 'cos when I offered to thank her :wink: she "turned me down" :lol: Sorry, poor joke. Well here I go. Wish me luck.

Seriously, if you haven't bought yet there is an article in the latest issue of Good Woodworking on getting started on woodturning for £400. Might have some useful pointers for you - FWIW.
