I'm finally reaching that point where I might be able to focus more of my time and money on woodwork (with the aim of leaving my current job)and wondered if anybody had any advice.

I'll give you a quick rundown on my background:-
- All GCSE's and A-Levels passed,
- Chemistry BSc,
- Computer Science MSc,
- Working as a computer Operator.

You may notice a distinct lack of wood in the above. This is because I am academically gifted (homer) and so was guided towards University. I look back now and wish I'd done something more "hands-on".

I've had a quick look round at college courses but don't know what to try. I work shifts of roughly 3 on, 3 off so have blocks of spare time. I would also happily do some sort of apprenticeship but I'm now too old for the modern apprenticeship scheme (26) so it would need to be more of an informal agreement.

If anyone has any ideas, or lives near Birmingham and wants an extra pair of hands, please tell me.
