firstly apologies to Wallace and others

are the older saws really any good?
would you buy a wadkin over a new xcalibur axminster etc

I only ask as I am close to finishing my miniature workshop

I have decided to part company with
my flip saw....not so accurate tbh
RAS...never used it anyhow
Elektra kgs300...had it years and never let me down

I am at opinion that a BS and table saw with sled will do what I want

Steve

I think that they are just examples of what you look for in a machine but has generally been stripped away to make them cheaper. Solid machines that have stood the tests of time because they are solid.

i guess all anyone ask from a ts is a decent fence and enough power?

my question really i suppose was

buy an old wadkin \ startrite or spend twice as much on a new saw

Steve

Sorry Steve i can't remember how big your workshop actually is? That is if it's been mentioned.

The old machines can be quite big and very heavy. So not so easy to put in a corner out the way. With that in mind have you considered a track saw? Light, compact and easy to store.
If i can pull off getting a BS this year, the track saw will replace my TS.
At the mo my shop is 3.5 x 2.4 mtrs, so i'm really struggling with space.

And mass to absorb vibration and a flat table.

If I had the space I would go for the wadkin. I really liked the pk of Wallace's, and jacks, of course. If I had the space and money, well that would be a much harder decision but would probably still fall in the same direction, unless I had lots of money for something like a felder.

ouch that is small workshop

mine is 3.5m x 3.5m and i am struggling to get it right

the table saw will replace a cheap flip saw and a mitre saw
i am only thinking of an ags 10 so not a monster

i could not be without my cheap flip saw if it never had a replacement option
even a badly cut board is better IMHO than getting out a hand saw for a quick job

all the timber i work with is rough sawn i never ever buy timber..maybe a few bits of ply if i need it
i am lucky that i get a lot of donations

i am not made of money...who is tbh
but i enjoy my DIY woodwork and am also looking to the future when i cant afford anything new

this is the last bit of kit on wish list

so do i save up for a new TS or buy a cheap wadkin etc?

Steve

I can't help with your decision, but i'm hoping to extend my shop out a mtr or so. That would make things more comfortable for me. However if it does go ahead, then my TS will still go and be replaced by a BS. Then use a circular saw for ply etc.
