Hi I'm thinking about trying to buy this table saw Elektra Beckum, I want it to cut timber about 3inch thick scaffolding planks etc for making tables & boxes.

Can anyone advise if its possible to buy a good guide fence to fit on the side or would it be best to leave this type of table saw and buy one with a fence already fitted.

It's quite easy to make a top-quality fence for a TS. I show how on my DVD Workshop Essentials 10, but, alas, it's not free. I have to eat, I'm afraid. There is no welding to do, it's all nuts and bolts and all the materials are standard stock readily available off the shelf.

However, to answer your second question, and at the risk of doing myself out of a sale, I have to say that the sort of saw you are considering buying is a site saw, which are not generally considered to be high quality precision machines. Fine for fairly rough work on a building site, not so good for accurate cabinet-making work. For that you would be better looking for a TS with a cast top (iron or aluminium) rather than the pressed-steel one there. Of course, such a saw is likely to be more expensive.

But yes, if you do get that saw it is possible, indeed easy, to retro-fit a top-quality fence. It will be considerably better than the rest of the saw!
