I have one of those Flymo power trim strummers and have a problem. I used it yesterday for the first time this year having bought it about 3 years ago. Before I started I made sure the twin cords were out enough and then started, a few seconds later it was not cutting the grass and when I looked underneath there was no cord. I took the cord cover off and took a complete turn off each spool, put cover back and tried again, same thing happened, after a few seconds it was not cutting. I did this five times to no avail. I don't really want to throw it away and get a new one so any ideas what I can do. Many thanks everyone.

Is the cord wound the right way on the spool, if not it may be winding itself back on.

Everything is as it should be and the right way round. The spools are about half empty but still lots of cord there.

I think over time the plastic used for the strim part gets fragile and breaks easily so your not getting any use out of it. Maybe time for a new plastic "blade"

agreed, the line gets brittle and breaks with time. sometimes the line tends to weld itself to itself so it will not auto feed and then breaks. fit some decent line and have another go

Hi

Another thing that can happen is the eyelets which the cord passes through as it leaves the drum can corrode, the corrosion chafes the line and causes it to break.

Regards Mick

Have you considered a scythe?

Much quieter for you and your neighbours, plus you would have the satisfaction of developing a new skill.

Have a look at this website where they sell modern well-thought out designs.

On my strimmer and most others I've owned there is a cetrifugal or bump system that releases a little bit of line. Over winter mine always clogs up, strip it all out put on new cord and spray with WD40.

Old strimmer line probably.
A friend (a retired local authority grass verge maintenance worker) gave me some line off his 500m spool. Although it looked OK, a piece of about 5 metres long lasted less than 5 minutes.
