Strange behaviour of the 'message pane', on UKW

Why does the message pane sometimes stretch way off my monitor screen with all the smilies in a single row. It happens often and I can't see all of the message, or post the reply without shrinking the whole page to a tiny script I can hardly read?

Any ideas?

Is the behaviour associated with threads where someone has posted links to images with a large pixel count.

The normal forum display pane has software add-on to limit image display size, the reply and preview option does not have this and the displayed page stretches to accommodate the large pixel count images.
