I finished this several months ago and recently saw that the white paint had resin bleeding through it. The wood's Cedar of Lebanon.

I'd coated the cut part with knotting solution, then primed and painted (tho I can't remember with what).
It's now taken apart and sanded back, and I'm thinking to use knotting solution followed by aluminium primer (which I know I didn't use last time) and then a water-based matt top coat.
Should that work to hold back any resin that's still moving?
Thanks for any thoughts.

Shellac alone should be enough to prevent resin bleed-through, but just like with waterproofing the level of protection is based on the thickness of the film. So one coat of knotting may not be enough.

That said though if you're happy enough to use aluminium primer as well to go belt-and-braces then why not?

Thanks ED. I'll do a few layers of sealer and one of primer - I really don't want to have to take it off again if I can avoid it.
