hi
we had our hsbc card cloned a couple of weeks ago and £500 was taken from our debit account (plane ticket was bought with it), we told the bank who stopped the card straight away, we had to wait for two weeks while the bank looked into getting the money back from the airport and we had a rep phone us to let us know we had been refunded the money back, now although it does say money refunded the actual balance hasn't changed at all and its been 2 days now, do you think its worth a visit to get it sorted or leave it and see..

might be worth ringing HSBC- i would imagine that if you visit a branch, all they will do is make you ring somebody from there!

It depends how they work. I'm with natwest and often it will show as say balance £400 available credit £270. So they have allocated money for various payments etc, but haven't actually taken the money. It can stay like that for a few days or more.

Did you spot the transaction before the flight ?
If so it would be nice to think plod were waiting at check in.

Steve I would go to your own branch and ask for conformation the money had been repaid.

My wife had her card cloned a few years ago, the fraud department at Barclaycard actually picked it up, they were on the phone when another transaction was being made! It's a horrible feeling when this happens, we had to fill in forms allowing Barclaycards fraud department to look at everything we did, even down to our internet use!

Steve

As you may be aware from my previous posts (how did your PPI fee refund go?) I spent a long time investigating card fraud cases for an old employer so can offer advice if needed. However, it seems you're getting a refund so I agree with marcros - just chase them up for the dosh (sure it was an HSBC rep and not the fraudsters? ).

hi guys
if it hasn't been added to my balance by monday i will make an appointment to visit the local branch and sort it, yes we did notice it and what was more strange was the bank chap said the airport had overridden the 3 numbers on the back and claimed i had signed for the transaction, as i dont fly i thought this was funny..(ish)

they had also used opogo to search the flight and paid £19.40 for the privilege too..

hi mike, i thought i had answered the thread i started then but i may not have, however yes we did get our refund after the boss of the ppi company phoned us and we told her of what had happened, so all was well..

we have decided now only to use the credit card for everything and pay it off every month, 4 times this has happened to us and my wife dare not use the cards now..

thanks guys for the help..
