Hi All,

I was hoping for some advice on where to source blades for the TA165 9" Table Saw. I recently purchased this saw knowing that I'd need to use a reducing bushing 30mm, but I'm finding slim pickings online for 230mm blades, I also assume I'd need to find blades that have a thickness around 1.6mm due to the riving knife on this saw? Anyone who owns one have a source / suggestion?

Thanks
Brian

Axminster do a few 230mm dia blades......

They also sell a 30mm to 5/8"inch reducing bush....

If your Riving knife is only 1.6mm thick, its not an original as the originals are 2.15mm thick on a Startrite 165 saw.....
Your blade does need to be a little bit wider than your Riving knife.

Thanks, I'll check on the riving knife as I suspect it's just my green ignorance ;)

Will the saw take 235mm blades? You'd have more choice.

Hi Phil, many thanks for the response. Honestly, I'm green around the edges so have no idea... I 'assume' that as long as there is clearance I should be ok... I'll do some digging, maybe another TA165 owner will be able to confirm :)

It should take a 235mm blade. If you need a manual, I can probably dig one out and send you one. You normally can run blades 2/3rds diameter of maximum as the minimum so you can put a smaller blade on (but lose some depth of cut)

Manual here: http://sharkbandsawblades.co.uk/downloads/i_table_saw_handbooks/TA 165 Handbook 18E WM.pdf

I fitted a Freud blade from screwfix to my 165 - I’ll post the type when I next get to the workshop.

EDIT: It’s a 250mm one. It might be a little oversized, but that size was fitted by the previous owner. I find it very useful for ripping 5” boards in two passes, flipping end-for-end.

EDIT2: I vaguely remember needing a reducing bush (30mm-5/8”) which I got from Axminster.

Thanks, I'll take a look

I've got a couple 5/8" bore 235mm blades from Wealden Tool's clearance section but no longer have the saw they went in - looks like they still have quite a bit of stock of 5/8" blades - Circular Sawblades

Hey Sam, thanks for the pointer, just took delivery of three blades with 5/8 bore from the clearance section! very nice blades too :)

I thought the stock riving knife was 2.5mm (according to machinespares)...

Mine has a homemade knife (not by me at 2.7mm ish). As I understand it, the knife should be thinner than the kerf but thicker than the blade itself, so 2.5mm would seem right for most google-able blades I can find. Machinesppares do sell a knife and I'm prob going to get blade/knife that match.

EDIT: Just spotted Distinterior comment, take my reference to the original thickness with a pinch of salt, I was getting it from SAW GUARD & RIVING KNIFE - Machine Spares which I suspect is fabricated close to the original pattern.
