Don't know if this is allowed but here we go
I noticed this add asking for help on face book regarding a startrite bandsaw and thought some one on here would know ???

Hi, this bandsaw has been moved from an old school workshop into a new one. However, no one thought to save the key! Does anyone know if there's a way to get it started without the key or have any suggestions please? I've contacted machine spares who have rights to manufactures info but they said original drawings for this model just had stop/start buttons and no lock on there. Not keen on having to buy a new bandsaw if i can 'hot wire' this one! Thanks in advance.

Just from what you've written there, I would guess this is an aftermarket lock... basically a rotary on/off switch built onto a cylinder lock. You can get them from Maplins for a couple quid. Cut one wire to the start/stop buttons, splice in this lock and that's it done.

So yeah, assuming you can open the machine up, I'd just undo what's been done and simply remove the lock, replace the wire(s) and put it back to original spec. Plug the hole left by the removed lock.

Think he has it fixed now. This was his reply " I found a 455 key and it worked. Thanks all!"

Oh, reply on Farcebook?
I wondered why I couldn't see that anywhere above!!

Hope this OK with our mods

I wouldn't be too disparaging about "Farcebook" I know there is lots of tosh on there but this is a good page if your in to the more artistic side of furniture and the mods are pretty ruthless with tosh :D https://www.facebook.com/groups/WoodworkProjects/
