I have a Stanley-Bridges 4-speed drill (1970s) for which I have strong affection as it was given to me by my father. Unfortunately i overloaded it some time ago and popped the thermal cut-out. You can reset this by opening the casing and pushing the slider in, but this works for only a short time before the cut-out pops again. I want to get the drill working properly once more. Does anyone know where I can get spare parts for it? I'd need a new motor complete, or perhaps only a replacement cut-out. I understand that, when Stanley-Bridges folded, they sold all their spares to a man who sold them from his home. Any idea who that was?

The part will not be totally a one-off for your drill and you should be able to get an alternative part. Need to establish the rating for it. Best wishes.

I also have 2 Stanley Bridges drills along with a full set of attachments that I have had since the 1970's and keep for similar reasons to yourself.
Your best option is to keep an eye out on Ebay for a drill and use it for spare parts.
There isn't much on there at the moment but when I have looked in the past Stanley Bridges items sell for very little money.

Thank you powertools, I'll keep on the lookout.

In the meantime, does anyone have any other leads?

Hi DIYer, if you are interested I have a small box with at least one working drill, a couple of stands (so the shaft runs horizontally) and, I think, a compressor attachment. You are very welcome to these and collection would be better than posting, I live in Christchurch, Dorset.

Thank you, Soulboy. Unfortunately I live in London, which is some way away, but may be able to get to you in the Summer. How much are you asking for the box and contents?

Tony

hi tony, not asking anything for them, I picked them up for my ex's dad but he went & bought all new.

Thanks Chris, I'd be glad to have them but need to find time to get down to Dorset. I'll probably take my wife for a weekend away in the Suimmer - be in touch again.

Hi, do you still have that box of old BRIDGES drill parts ?
I am seriously interested in the drill as I need to replace the on/off trigger mechanism in on old BRIDGES DR2T MK5 GENERAL PURPOSE Electric drill.
I am in Wimborne.
Kind regards,

Mine still works. In my early days modified all my handheld-power tools to a system somewhat like the Festool. I gave them all a 'pigtail' plug to fit the one longer lead socket. So that's what my Stanley Bridges drill has now. Works a treat! No lead trailing everywhere when I want to put it away.
I might do the same with my newer power drill come to think!
