Well, i found out that Stanley produced planes in Sheffield up to the mid 90's. After that they started making planes in China, Taiwan, Brasil? and Mexico. No vonder the quality of the no. 5 jack plane i bought was bad.

The no.5 is now back in the shop, and i have just recieved two nice old english made Stanley's ordred from http://www.Oldtools.uk. With wooden handles, and cutters with an angeld top, just how i remember them from the time i went to the cabinetmaker school in 1996, and as an apprentice two years later.

These are quality planes from a time when the Stanley workers took pride in their production, and for me it's all in the history of the trade, it's what i do and what i'm proud of. That's why a quangwhatever or a liethisandthat never vill enter my workshop.
