I have used 9mm plywood to panel an interior wall - approx 750 x 300mm panels with 5mm shadow gap. These panels surround a frame made with 18mm ply, inside which I have mounted two large computer monitors. To this frame I want to attach a door which will fold down and become the desk for the monitors. I want hinges that will suit to lower the door and hold the desk in place.

The issue I have is that this door / desk is 18mm ply that is 1800 x 560mm in size - so has significant weight.

I also want the door not just to lower, but to open down and then out.

I have definitely seen hinges that function in this way before, but am having trouble sourcing anything that will do this and support the weight.

If anyone has built something similar and has a solution, or knows of a specialist hinge manufacturer that could help, any advice is welcome. I don't want to go down the piano hinge and chain route, but am getting closer and closer to that eventuality.

I would think any hinge will struggle with the weight. Perhaps a fold out gallows bracket that comes out when you lower the top?

A bit confused about the opening down and out bit ? Maybe do a drawing.
Soss hinges are good, they fit into the "end" of the panel if you see what I mean. You could try those things for toybox lids that hold the tops up either gass struts or the kind with the oil filled hinge (can`t remember the name).
