Does anybody know where I can get my hands on 5 mm veneers? (or close to this thickness)
I am based in east London.

I don't even know if they would be considered as veneers at this thickness... wood sheets maybe?

I make furniture by laminating sheet material together, mainly plywood with some acrylic / OSB / aluminium. Then carving into the layers which gives a nice effect.
But what I really want to do is get the sheets of wood before they are laminated together into plywood. I can then twist and turn these sheets, glue these together, and then carve and finish the shape. The effect this would give would be great. I have several designs that are based around this twisting of the sheets, so any advice or point in the right direction would be fantastic.

Thanks

Might be worth getting a bandsaw if you don't already have one? Then cutting the timbers to your spec and giving the cut surface a lick with a hand plane. That way you are not limited to what is or isn't stocked. Plus depending on the bandsaw size you are only limited to the size of the timbers available. :)

capital crispin maybe? 5mm might be a bit more than they have, but i am sure that they could tell you easily enough.

5mm veneer is thicker than I have ever seen but you are in the right place to find it the East End of London is traditionally the centre of the veneer industry. I would also start looking at Capitol Crispin http://www.capitalcrispin.com/about.aspx
or Eden Anglo French can be very good for constructional veneer

or one more is Reliance Veneer who I believe are or were the last remaining veneer producer in the UK

I have just had a delivery of some very clean Burr Walnut from Mundy's

Please let us know how you get on Cheers Peter

Alex i get my veneers from ebay. It might not be the cheapest way? but at least i can see what i'm getting grain/ curl wise etc :)

Constructional veneers is the search term you need but a quick Google only came up with 2.5mm as the thickest. Also you might find species choice limited.
