Hello All, I am trying to source some planed teak (or suitable alternative) to replace a swim platform on a boat. I'm looking for planks, somewhere between 85 and 125mm wide, 18-25mm thick and around 1600mm long. In total, I need around 0.8m2, not much but proving blooming difficult to source. Ideally I am looking for supply in or around Glasgow. Any ideas?

I thought about iroko, but no experience how it weathers. Fresh water use only, would it weather in a similar fashion to teak

I have some Iroko on a garden bench. After 15 years, it's gone grey, and has just a little algae on it. (The kind of algae that indicates the air is clean I'm told.) I have never treated it with anything, but then the rain isn't salty. (At least not these days.) No real problems except that the arched top member of the back split away and had to be glued back on. It is time to renew though I think and I'm ordering Western Red Cedar from Sykes. Your teak will cost you a pretty penny, but you shouldn't have to do it again.

(My bench came from Asda BTW!)

What about afromosia? Not sure how readily available it is, but I think it's closer to teak than iroko.

Robbins in Bristol specialise in teak and other marine timbers, but you'd better have smelling salts handy when you look at their price list. It is truly breathtaking.

I've got some in dry storage here, but not in the sizes you need unfortunately. I mention it because most of mine is reclaimed (or leftover) T+G cladding. There must have been quite a lot used that way in the past. If you can find some would that do?

I am in Glenrothes and have a load of teak worktops salvaged and would have that amount easily if you don't have any luck locally.
