I wish to plant a blackthorn (prunus spinosa) in my garden, so I have a close to hand source of sloes
for gin making (and so I can let the fruits ripen properly; the ravening hordes
round my way strip the bushes before they ought to, tragedy of the commons etc).
I can readily get "hedging" grade blackthorn for 1-2 quid per plant (even cheaper in bulk)
but I have discovered the existence of a cultivated (selected) variety called "plena"
which has double flowers.
I have so far only found two sources of this, both at £25 per plant (!!).
Expensive Link with PIctures
Does anyone know of a more reasonably priced source of this "prunus spinosa plena" ?
