I just found that one of the steel square tubes that my local B&Q 'Mini warehouse' has in a rack with assorted angles and sections fits my Paramo sash cramps. It's 40 x 27mm and 1m long, and the 27mm size is a nice sliding fit in the Paramo. I had to open out the slot in the heads slightly with a file, and of course drill all the holes, but I've now got a much more useful stiffer pair of cramps compared to the wood bars I used before. They were £7.50 each.

I did a similar thing with my original quickgrip clamps.
I went to a local steel stockholder and bought 20' of the same size steel.
I had to grind the edges round instead of the slight roundover on the steel but can now have quickgrip clamps in a variety of lengths up to 60"
