I have a shortcut icon arrived on my screen named

"continue image editor"

It wants me to install and I see something about cookie mentioned. Havent downloaded or installed it but what is it and where did it come from?

It's a PUP. Use a malware scanner such as Malwarebytes to detect and remove such stuff. It will have been part of some other download that you have made recently.

I run Malwarebytes on a regular basis, same with Superantispyware (which usually picks up a large number of pesky little adware programs). Both of these I keep on a USB stick memory and update manually before each usage. They are both free and recommended by most reviewers of security programs. I have Kaspersky running all the time, too, as my main antivirus programme. Sounds like belt and braces I know, but, touch wood, I have not been infected with anything nasty!!

PUP ?
I had to look it up , Potentially Unwanted Program

Nev, If you have not come across the term PUP before, you might want to run Malwarebytes yourself as there is a high probability that you might have some PUPs yourself.

Thanks Myford, good advice.
I 'm not unfamiliar with (no expert though) tinterweb and computers but I just had not heard that acronym before. Also I run Linux, so there are a lot less nasties out there :)

Thanks, it must have come from a Wacom patch early this week, the only download for weeks.

My rule of thumb with any upgrade or fresh install is to chose to do a manual or custom install and or pay close attention to the screen and why it's asking you to click yes or install. Even what used to be reputable software companies continually try to sneak garbage programs in.
