I was thinking of buying a Makita LS1216L sliding mitre saw but am now considering the Dewalt DWS780XPS or the DW717XPS

Although I do not have any particular need for a large saw like the 780 XPS (hammer) having the option should the need arise is probably not a bad thing. My main priority is accuracy & consistency of cut.

Just need some advice or comments, for me to take the plunge.

Thanks

Any of the three will do you proud
All are very accurate and powerful they are also heavy beasts to be carried any distance or up and down ladders
I personally would choose the 780 but I am biased towards it since using a friends for a few hours on a cut roof

I have the Makita LS1018 which is the 10" model beneath the Mak you mention and cannot fault it. Absolutely brilliant accurate cuts every time with loads of capacity and very solidly built. If I needed to replace it I'd buy another Mak in a heartbeat.

We have the dw717xps at work, its probably the best 10" scms I've used and I really like the shadow system instead of 'lasers' for blade positioning on the work piece.

I've used several 'budget' brands and have an old Makita ls1013 at home, if I was buying for myself again and couldn't stretch to a kapex I'd buy a 717.

FWIW

I have the 718 pre XPS and am very happy with it. For me it was a toss up between that and the Festool one but my hands are too small for the Festool and it felt difficult so I went for the De Walt.

I have the kapex and wings and it's brilliant. However I found myself needing a smaller one to take to site and small jobs, where a small foot print is required. After trying one on site, yesterday bought the Makita LS0714 @£250 and although the cut capacity is only 55mm x 300mm it's great, spot on accurate straight out of the box and it's very powerful, very light and dust pick up with Midi is fantastic. Skirts and Archs this will be go to mitre saw.
