can someone explain the difference in the above for me.
never knew exactly what the diffrence was.

Compound will cut an angle in two planes as opposed to just one.

Are there any Sliding mitre saws that are not compound?

A little more than Mark said The compound saw can swing the saw horizontally changing the angle of cut relative to the fence, also from left to right changing the angle of cut relative to the table. Either movement by itself is a mitre do both at once and you have a compound mitre.

As far as I am aware there is only a Mitre-Saw and Sliding Compound Mitre Saw (SCMS). The differences have been detailed above.
