Hi people hope someone can help. During this lockdown phase I have decided to do some roof work tidy it up. We had a very old skylight which is being replaced but is slightly larger. I have included pics but just wondering can the joist which is double trimmed be cut back to allow the new skylight to be fitted

The width is currently 710mm and needs to bed 800mm be removing the small section would make it the right size

Thanks
Sean

Unlikely. More information is needed, of course, including the span (and sizes) of the timbers and any loadings. Also the size of the opening, and any other nearby openings.
