I am fitting some 7" torus skirting (will be painted) in a barn conversion. The entrance hall floor is Yorkstone flags which are quite uneven and I think it might look strange if I scribe the skirting to the floor. I have seen it done with the skirting left more or less straight and the gaps below filled with something which was stone/cement coloured.

Anybody got any thoughts on this, I don't mind scribing it all but just think it will look odd.

Any ideas on what I could fill underneath with, guess it wants to look natural and be flexible, would something like trowel mastic work? Ideally would be looking for something in a mastic type tube?

Many thanks, Doug

Why is there any skirting at all? If I were designing the place, I'd almost certainly omit it, as I have done in many old cottages, and farmhouses etc with flag floors in the Peak District. Skirting will always look out of place.

Hi Doug, you don't say what the wall finish is ? How big is the entrance hall if not to large you'd probably get away with scribing it in alternatively have you considered a matching material tile instead but as Mike has said I'd leave it off completely as long as the wall finish is tidy.

I agree it would look better without skirting but the plasterboard finishes about an inch above the floor leaving a gap #-o

Tervueren you are probably right, the hall is not that big, well there are no areas where you can stand back and get a good look at the intersection between skirting and floor anyway. I will try scribing some and see what it looks like, the customer says it will be fine, they don't see a problem, it's just me creating one as usual!
