Skirting board not matching door skirting

Messed up and bought wrong size skirting board.
Is it common to blend in skirting board? or do i need to buy thicker door skirting.

No restriction on you uploading (attaching ) reasonably sized image files to the forum.
 
Not totally sure what you mean. Are you referring to architrave when you say 'door skirting'? If so, and your skirting is thicker than your architrave you can put plinth blocks on the architrave.

Guessing as most you mean the architrave round the outside of the door frame.
sharp plane and chamfer across about 2" in to the correct thickness to match the architrave. almost all of my houses walls have been skimmed multiple times, which means I've had to rebate the architrave and it's considerable thinner on the meeting of the skirting now, which means almost of of my skirting does as you suggest. no one has noticed, not even sure my wife realises.
