My garage has a simple wooden frame window in need of replacement with a upvc unit. Currently there is no lintel and 2 x brick courses to the roof. Is it a (competant) DIY`ers task to retro fit a lintel? If so which tyrpe?

Cheers

Usually a concrete lintel is used on single skin brickwork if it’s only 2 courses I’d remove both courses & replace them with a 140 deep lintel such as this
https://www.travisperkins.co.uk/con...G6vYNhcdsODzWvoIoOoaAoqbEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.dsYou just need to prop up the roof rafters that sit on the brick work to be removed, take out the bricks & put the lintel in their place mortaring the lintel to the brickwork 150mm past the window reveals & level with the existing brickwork. Once set remove the props.
