Here in Lowestoft I have a supplier and bought some quickclamps from him, they were so good I have just ordered another 40.

They cost £4.95 each and the same clamps on Screwfix are over £12.00 each. Link below.

Must admit would class them Hobbyist rather than Professional but great all the same.

Silverline wouldn't generally be my first choice for tools from a quality/robust point of view. I looked at the quikclamps in my local hardware shop but one of the staff did mention that he had a pair and that they tended to slip, but perhaps he was expecting too much from them. I think I have some similar clamps I picked up at a show (you know, from one of the pound stalls..) a few years back and although not branded, ok for light duty applications. Even have a couple of alu sash clamps, fine for the money.
But I do suggest getting a few of these from Silverline

Very, very handy and surprisingly good quality.
Suppose at the end of the day Silverline, Richmond, Blackspur etc are all similar.

I have wanted a straight edge clamp for some time. Trend sell them starting at £29.95 +vat. Following that link to Silverline I found them at between £11.03 for 600mm & £16.71 for 1270mm (4'). These make a great straight edge to guide a saw or router.

I've a couple of the Axminster Perform guide clamps which are the same price. Quality about 90% of the Trend clamps, so perfectly adequate.

Sorry, but I don't think that you're comparing apples with apples. The Screwfix clamps are heavy duty and have a different colour plastic. I have to agree that the SFX ones look overpriced.

The clamps that you have purchased, I assume, are Quick Clamps with a product code of VC102 and are listed at 4.86 on the Silverline site.

The heavy duty clamps are listed at 8.20.

Or, if you hurry you may be able to get the original Quick-Grip version, like this

http://www.tool-up.co.uk/shop/diy/Q/G51 ... d=GXTI6bqc

from... Homebase. 3 for 2 offer on hand tools (at least in the store I drove past the other day, and then back into) and 10% off on top (that might have gone now) at basic price of £26 for a pair. Works out at £8.60ish each on the 3 for 2.

Jake

P.S. shame that's nearly the only type of cramp they sell, apart from over=priced record speed cramps, which still worked out at £6.50 each for a 300mm cramp. Which was OK, but not as much of a bargain as it should have been, had they not been £10 each without the offer. More to the point, they only had three on the shelf...

And shame that all the other hand tools were crapola.

I agree James. The website is very slow in places
However the panel raising set is the cheapest
I have ever seen.
As to how it performs is another matter. :(
Who going to test it. :p

I think the prices on the Silverline website are wholesale prices for account trade customers. If you check the retailers (via the 'buy online' link) you'll find the prices are somewhat higher - £40-odd for the panel door set, for example.

Still cheap, but not quite as cheap as the Silverline web prices might suggest.

The Micrometers that Screwfix sells are made by Silverline ;) A lot of the stuff Screwfix sells is made by SL they just don't mention that :D

Come on you guys, nobody can out-do Screwfix eg. number of lines, delivery and very pleasent customer services.

What I was trying to put across was that there is another supplier of tools out there that can compete with the "big boys" and it seems this company supplies them.

As for Wholesale/retail pricing, I checked out

http://www.etc-supplies.co.uk/

and their prices are very competitive.
