Side Axe

Hey there! I'm trying to find out dimensions of a side axe like Stubai. Just interested in the size of the head as this info is for a blacksmith, but the more details I can get the better. Does anyone own one they wouldn't mind measuring up? Blade length/width, back, head width, basically as much info as possible.

Hi Vassago - welcome to the forum.

Mine isn't Stubai, it's similar but German. It does not have the nail - pull slot in the blade. It did have the claw at the back but I cut it off; most people do according to Mike Abbot Best not to include one in the first place is my thinking.

The length of the head is about 7" at the middle of the blade, 6 - 3/4" here at the top.

The beard is just short of 5 - 1/2"

The eye is 2 - 1/8" long

(And 7/8" wide.)

The width of the head at the back is 1 - 1/4" (though it doesn't look it here because of the chamfers)

And the depth of the head around the handle is just over 2 - 1/4".
