Has anyone got a Shopsmith Duplicator that they want to show me working . ( Or sell ) I have some very tiny spindles that I want to turn, basic measurements are 1" by 1/2". With tiny grooves . I just can't seem to get them all the same..
Merry Xmas to one and all

I've not used the Shopsmith make of duplicator but unless it is very different from other duplicators I've seen in action it won't do what you want. They are a pretty crude way of copying and the result needs much more work to make a finished job.

I am on the Legacy Ornamental Mill site and a couple of chaps in the U SA have got Shopsmiths also, and use them And say they would do the job. (I sent a pic.to them of the spindle giving dimensions )
I would like to see one or something similar in action.
I did think of clamping my Zenta with a small cutter to the top slide of the metal work lathe, and that way get the high speed and the use of the scales in thou increments of course turning the lathe by hand.
Bye the way the best wood I have turned small object before is some Forsythia that I cut down in the garden, it turns as smooth as silk,------ one lives and learns???

Okay well I'm sure they should know better than me but I remain sceptical.

I've done some repeat turning and made up templates which worked well enough after a few tries. Nothing as small as you're contemplating though.
