The green and wetter end of the M4.
* Its gone from amusing, trudged through boring and is now firmly entrenched in annoying and off-putting.

There is obviously more than one way to skin or sharpen a cat and thats after you've argued if the cat needs sharpening in the first place, and whether to hold the cat freehand or in a gold plated jig.

By all means reply to questions of 'how do I sharpen this? etc, after all thats the main purpose of the forum, the sharing of information gleaned from years of doing, the imparting of knowledge to those wanting to learn. A bit of banter and playful poking at and joking with others adds to the mix to create a friendly community, hopefully welcoming more and more to the fold as time goes by.
The constant trolling and digging at others that have a different opinion of how to do things is enough to put anyone off.
If you dont agree with something by all means state your reasons but then agree to disagree and move on.
Sly digs at the other camp to provoke an argument can be IGNORED by said camp, be the better man, let it go! and get on with other things more productive or worthwhile of your time.
FFS go and do some woodworking!

The main protagonists have been warned. They have been temporarily banned. They pull their necks in for five minutes and then return to handbags a short time later. It will inevitably end up with permanent bans.

The disappointing thing is that these people have a great deal of knowledge and have helped many with their advice and experience but it is marred with all the petty childlike bickering.

So the next time the wasps nest is poked, walk away. Be the better person.

* I say the above not as a MOD but as me, a bloke in a shed, in my sanctuary, away from all the cr*p in the world, sometimes needing guidance and others expertise to improve my woodworking skills, enjoy my hobby and stay sane. I can do without petty bickering and one-upmanship, there's enough of that about elsewhere in the world.

If you were to poke the wasps nest it might be best done with a pointy stick, do you think it should be sharpened with a pencil sharpener or a blade and if so what angle.

i couldnt agree more we all need help and advice at some point even the tool tarts , tools are made to use not abuse please just enjoy what you have . a lee neilsen plane is only a fancy record or stanley both they all plane wood .
some of us are unable to do what the old lads did whith old woodie:s never mind the posh tools if its sharp it will cut.

I never even looked at this thread when it was first posted because i thought it would be full of the usual " mine is bigger than yours so there" rhetoric. So pleased to find that someone at long last decided to put a stop to all the c r a p ( until they need there a r s e s spanking again).

I think the obsession with sharpening is deeply rooted. It was our ability to sharpen flints, burnt sticks etc which gave us domination over the world. Apparently it was us (**** sapiens and earlier models) and our sharp gadgets, which finished off various mega fauna - mammoths, sabre-tooth tigers etc (not over yet there's some big fluckers out there still!).
Sharp tools are our teeth and claws - there's nothing we can't kill and eat. And then control over materials - stone, wood, hide etc.
We are doomed to keep talking about it for a long time - it's our primary skill, greatest strength, followed closely by fire and its uses.
