Sharpening a plane iron

To clean dirty hands after sharpening I use Baby wipes, fraction of the cost of the normal ones, does the job and smells nice.

Great tip on baby oil by the way. I think we have a few litres of the stuff left over from my two daughters.

Agree - "a rounded bevel might not matter".
In fact if you don't round over as in Jeff's last drawing, a rounded bevel makes sharpening very easy. You can relax a bit and not have to freeze elbows, pivot ankles, or even grit your teeth! What's more you can put a lot of force into it and it becomes faster.
It took me years to realise this, but only 20 minutes or so to get good at it. Now all my kit is sharp and has rounded bevels - rounded under that is, from 30º at the edge with a continuous rounded bevel behind, at less than 30º tangent , as in Jeff's top drawing.

Luckily I missed out on all that so, cheapo Baby Wipes for me. Does beg the question... if they're so much cheaper why are the hand wipes so dear? 100 Baby wipes .99p 25 Hand Wipes 2.99 ??

You need a lot more baby wipes than hand wipes so if you have a baby it'll even out over time I imagine!
