Setting up thicknesser blades

Hi guys

I have a problem with my thickness/planer. I set the blades up perfectly in alignment with the outfeed table on planer setup and it is perfect when planing wood. Lovely, smooth finish. However when thicknessing it give s a horrible rippled finish.

The manual (i finally read it) states that a ruler should move 5-10 mm when placed on outfeed table and blades rotated. I suspect that this will give 'scolloped' ends on planer


Any advice please....
