Sealing Birch Ply

Hello

I need to seal some birch ply. Several pieces have been clamped and glued together and it's the edges that I want to seal - these are going to be placed (edge facing up) in a piece which will form the decorative 'surface' therefore, I want a type of seal / varnish that will give an almost 'glass' like surface.

I seem to recall a product which you mixed with a hardener and it gave a really hard surface.....can't for the life of me remember the manufacturer :? .

Any advice welcomed.
