Not positive but i believe it is something to do with the speed that the card can be written too and read from they should work in your card reader without any problems.

I'm not so sure. I have an old card reader and 2Gb is the largest SD card that it will handle. So possibly, dw, you may need a more up to date card reader as well.

I'm pretty sure that I have a spare 16GB SD card somewhere around which I can lend you to check out your card reader. But TBH cardreaders are dirt cheap these days.

Sd is the physical size of the card.

Any sd card reader will read any sd card so it will be ok. Your card reader is just a vehicle for the sd cards to your USB slot. Sd 7 sdhc will all work with your reader.

The different types of cards only relate to the capacity and or speed of the card. For instance some cards need to be very fast for digital cameras and video cameras.

Hope this helps, Simples.

Broadly speaking... SD = Secure Digital, typically 1MB - 2GB capacity. SDHC = Secure Digital High Capacity, typically 4GB - 32GB. Then there's SDXC = Secure digital Extended Capacity, 32GB - 2TB (so far.)

Sustained read/write speeds are usually referred to by what class of card they are e.g. Class2 = 2MB/second, Class 10 = 10 MB/second etc...

Thanks to all for offer and quick helpful replies.

I will have to check with Yamaha because the usb stick goes to my Tyros keyboard and some of those cards designations have not been compatible with the keyboard.

Roger if you want to post your spare card and could see if it is compatible I would be pleased and grateful to give it a run. (will post my home address up email)

Sorry but I have to disagree. My old card reader will definitely NOT read larger capacity SD cards.

Also this from Wiki

SDHC

Official SDHC logo
The Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) format, defined in Version 2.0 of the SD specification, supports cards with capacities up to 32 GB.[1] The SDHC trademark is licensed to ensure compatibility.[7]

SDHC cards are physically and electrically identical to standard-capacity SD cards (SDSC). The major compatibility issues between SDHC and SDSC cards are the redefinition of the Card-Specific Data (CSD) register in Version 2.0 (see below), and the fact that SDHC cards are shipped preformatted with the FAT32 file system.

Host devices that accept SDHC cards are required to accept SDSC cards.[1] However, host devices designed for SDSC do not recognize SDHC or SDXC memory cards, although some devices can do so through a firmware upgrade.[8] Older operating systems require patches to support SDHC. For instance, Microsoft Windows XP before SP3 requires a patch to support access to SDHC cards.[9] Windows Vista SP1 also requires a later service pack.[10][11]

EDIT: Sorry, John....my mistake. I have only 2GB SD cards...(which cannot be read by my UnoMas card reader.)

I'm with Roger

I use SD but also 8gb SDHC for my camera and have several card readers, a couple of which will definately not read the high capacity cards.
As said, card readers are as cheap as chips. 7dayshop is excellent value and they're all over ebay. I bought one for a quid from a pound shop which works perfectly. Cheaper to buy one than pay postage back and forward to try out IMO.
