Im not quite sure how to ask this so here goes.

I have a workbench and part of it is removable so i can put a mft top on and i want to be able to lock it down. I have seen some screws that have a part that i would put into the table top and allow a screw/bolt to be repeatedly screwed in and taken out without spoiling the wood, clamps are not really an option as they will get in the way.

Would it possibly be a rivet nut?

I hope that's clear as to what i am looking for but i have not idea what they would be called.

thanks M

rivnuts usually go into metal. look for T nuts sometimes pronged T nuts but not the type to use with T track.
Screwfix and toolsatan stock em in metric thread sizes

It sounds to me like you're talking about threaded inserts, which will take a bolt or machine screw. There are variants that will screw in to the wood, and ones that just hammer in, depending what exactly you need.
