I have seen so many scrapers rubbed by files it makes me grind my teeth. Back in the sixties I was taught to sharpen by making the edge square and smooth by firstly smoothing the side of your scraper then trapping the scraper between the lid and base of the box your sharpening stone was kept in and rub the edge of your scraper against the edge of your stone, this way it didn't put gouges in the top of your stone, produced a smooth edge and kept it at 90 degrees then burnished.
I have just watched this guy's technique (William Ng) and he treats his as though it were a razor, check this out and see the results..http://thewoodwhisperer.com/scraper-sha ... illiam-ng/
