Hello UKWrs,
Im after a bit of advice...
I need to replace part of the nearside waistrail on my Morris Traveller this summer, I need to cut out the rot and scarf in a new piece of ash. Im a bit concernened about getting an exact fit - here is the offending article:

The actual rot is at the rear of the horizontal section below the side windows as shown here:

Any thoughts as to how to get a good scarf joint with a watertight fit?
Thanks, Mike.

How bad is the rot? If it's spread it may be easier to replace the whole section. I've seen quite a few repaired Moggys and it's difficult to get a perfect finish.

Otherwise cut a new piece of ash to more than cover the rotted area, slightly chamfered so that you create a wedge that you can tap into place. Then mark round this piece and cut the rot away.

I'd use polyurethane glue because as it sets it expands into the end grain helping to seal it and prevent further rot.

Hope this helps, if it makes sense

Keith
