Something I have been getting round to!

Another possible is the West Yorkshire Steel Company, www.westyorkssteel.com

Ask for BS1449 CS95, which is the almost exact equivalent of the SAE1095 steel that the American boutique sawmakers use. It's a 0.95% carbon spring steel, and can be obtained either annealed or hardened and tempered (which will be the condition you'll need). West Yorks Steel's website says they can supply cut to size, though I don't know if they have a minimum order requirement.

Does anyone know where I can get the material to make a saw plate?
Really interested in making one.

Thanks

Adam.

Hi Adam,

We buy precision thicknessed and polished spring steel 1095 from hs-folien.de (the do have an English page). Great folks to deal with. If your looking for only small amounts for backsaws, pm me.

Cheers Pedder

I'm surprised at College Engineering as I've bought from them often - mainly at ME Shows where their business is supplying small quantities to model makers?
It's more likely they don't stock it?

Have you tried Cromwells?
