Evening all,

I am looking at getting a bandsaw for my small garage shop. Mainly to cut blanks for the lathe and various other curved cuts and possible resawing of wood.

I have been looking at three different bandsaws but am struggling to find any definitive information regarding quality and what not.

First band saw I've seen is the Axminster Hobby Series HBS250N which is currently on sale at £220.

The next one is the Record Power BS250 Premium Bandsaw which is £259.

They both have a cutting depth of 120mm, not sure if I would need larger or not really?

Another one is the Charnwood W715 but the cutting depth is only 100mm.

Is there any other companies Ive missed out on to have a look. Can these be gotten anywhere else cheaper than on their respective websites? Any idea on reliability/quality for these ones?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. the amount of info is boggling! :?

I bought my first band saw a few months ago.
The smaller, cheaper models of band saw were just too small and low powered in my opinion.
After consideration I decided to buy the Record BS 12.
I've just noticed Record Power have added more videos to their website which shows their range of band saws in use.
Here is an example of the tiny BS 250: http://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/pr ... _o05GdATIU

Have you considered buying secondhand? A nice Startrite 351 or 252 would be a nice asset and holds their value should you decide to change it for something else. With a little patience you will pick up a really nice for c£400, and can potentially, sell if for more than you paid for it.

Thanks my kind of machine!
