Sapele bowl

This was my first effort for the competition, but changed my mind after I took it off the lathe and did another one.

This one's sapele - first time I've used this, and it cuts nicely IMHO - approx 6" dia, 3" high.
Didn't take the bowl even close to full depth, as wanted to create the illusion of having lots of things in it when there's really not so it's only cored out to about 1.25"

Finished by sanding to 400, couple of coats of shellac sealer taken back with 0000 then 4 or 5 coats of beeswax.

Comments, critique & suggestion always welcome.
All I ask is for a little kindness, as this was the first thing I turned after getting the cast off & I'm still getting used to using two hands again!! lol

looks ok to me, and i like the shallow idea, adds some weight visually (and physically i guess).

Yeah, it gives it a good bit of bulk.
Might end up rechucking it and taking some more out though. It just doesn't look quite right to me.

Workmanship looks fine , cant see any marks 8)

I can see the reason for the design ( Shallow ) but cant see its very practical so maybe its best to hollow it further

I know what you mean about the hollowing.
Been mulling it over for a couple of weeks since I turned it, so thought the best thing was to put it on here and get some opinions.
Personally, I'm swaying towards taking more out. If I get a chance over the weekend I'll probably give go then.

Having two hands again is a bit strange to get used to after the weight of the cast being there for so long.
After having to find a new way to hold the chisels etc with the cast on, I'm having to try to remember how I did it before.
It's almost like starting from scratch again - knowing I can do it, but not being able to work out how!! lol.

You're right though, it's good to have them both working again.

Decided to take some more out of the inside of this bowl, making it about an inch deeper than it was.
First time I've tried rechucking something, and it wasn't a pretty sight.
Took me almost half an hour to get the thing running true.

Got there in the end though, and this is how it looks now.
