I am wondering if anyone could help me out on this. I'm don't have that much money to spend on equipment but could get funds together for a new one or second hand. I've looked at building your own and it all seems quite straight forwards, I could probably manage to make one with a conveyor belt.

Of course it depends how well you make the home build one but i'll be using plans for the typical self made ones.
One thing I find odd is I can't find any on sale that have bearings supporting at both sides of the drum which I imagine must present some kind of weakness, in the UK it seems the Jet ones are the only affordable option.

I did actually get round to buying a nice motor for a self made one but I could afford the new ones now.

Does anyone know what the typical differences would be in results between the two? I mainly want it for producing instruments back and tops, maybe a few other bits mostly to do with instrument making.

Thanks
