I bought one of those a couple of years ago. I connected it to a brand new Midi being used with a rotex and it quickly deformed and exploded (no joke!). There were no blockages etc it was literally out of the box for a few minutes. I guess I was extremely unlucky.

I took pictures (sorry they're on an old phone) as it sounded quite dramatic that it blew up and sent them to Rutlands who promptly refunded me ).

HTH

Btw I got a dust deputy and that's been fine.

Surely, you mean imploded dont you...???? Not exploded..!!!

These style of separators aren't very good but all accounts. They don't create as effective an air flow inside, and therefore aren't as efficient. Triton make one too

Yes smarty pants ( :p ) imploded given that air was being sucked in but "exploded" better described the way shards of plastic flew across the room. TBH I was lucky none of the bits hit me as they were mostly really sharp! I wish I could find the pictures it was pretty bad and hard to believe (I certainly didn't expect it!).

Yeah you can get a container (blue plastic drum or metal) for about 25 quid. A cyclone costs not much more than a tenner. As I've found today, it does a better job of stopping almost everything getting to your vac. All you need is some nuts/bolts, some rubber or other material for a seal and maybe some adaptors if the cyclone ports don't fit your vac.

The only possibly fiddly bit is the need for a relief valve especially if you use the plastic drum. Although from the sounds of it, the linked product has it's own implosion/explosion issues!

Thanks... even more tempting!

I got it set up just today. I used a metal drum from a place called patrico.

The outlets are 49mm. My vac 36mm hoses have 52mm end pieces on them so I was able to get it all connected with just a bit of gaffer tape.
