Routing handrail profiles

Hi all, quick and easy question (I hope) - I'm thinking about making some new handrail for the stairs, is it realistic to use a handrail profile cutter like this...

in a large hand held router or only safe in a router table where the depth of cut can be controlled better?

I have the same cutter as that you linked, well mine is the older yellow axminster version (you can actually see the cutter in my thread on the making of the burr oak davenport)

I would personally NOT recommend that you use this type of cutter freehand and keep it purely for the router table for safety reasons

IMHO anyway
