Whilst thinking about the top for my router table I find myself wondering if it would be useful if the front or left section were to slide - what is the view of the group? I detect mixed opinions about the tables out there already but I was thinking that it might be advantageous.

Hi Colin, ( opps we have the same name ) back to your question.
I am not sure what you mean :)

You can easily make sleds to hold the work securely whilst routing against the fence. Much easier than a sliding table to make and when you don't need it-bingo-throw it away!
Hope this helps
Philly :D

Hi Colin, I spotted the name a while back, pretty easy to mix us up but I'll try not to get you a bad name - good to hear from you.

Thanks too Philly.

What was in my mind was to make the front or left side of the table slide - I have some very good quality electronic rack sliders which are shouting out to be used for something like this. It would be a challenge to get it all set up accurately but as I have a lot of frame and panel work planned I felt that it would be useful to have a robust sliding section with two tee tracks set in it to hold a fence and length stop.

I have been using sleds on my existing tables, particularly my most used a horizontal one which I use a lot for morticing - I like loose tenons, I just wondered if a sliding table would be useful.

Anyway no need to decide today, am still making the base unit which will keep me occupied this weekend. My Unilift has arrived and I just bought a DW625 so am off to admire my new toys before I do any real work!!

regards

Colin

Welcome to the 625 club  IMHO a sliding bed is great for doing raised panels . I have the record table and have found in 2 years ive only wanted the sliding bed out of the way once .
