router starts but then stops

hi,
i wonder if anyone can help with the above problem, i press the switch and it starts to spin but the immediatley stops again, its an old jmb router, not the greatest but i cant see what is up with this, it works but then stops if you see what i mean. would it be the brushes or is this something different.
any help is much appreciatted,

Does it have a speed control? If so, it may well have a protection circuit which cuts off the power if it overheats.
