Router selection

Can anyone advise going to buy a router lift most of them suit a fix base router that don't seem to be sold here ,can a plunge router be stripped down eg casing taken off allowing it to fit thanks kirko17

Not quite sure of the question here but have a look at a Router Raizer (Woodworkers Workshop - now part of Peter Sefton).
I've fitted this to a Trend 9 plunge router but it comes with fixings that will suit most plunge routers.
I'm generally very pleased with the operation. The only downside is that the hole to insert the winder can be hidden under the fence on my router table for milling very close to the fence, but I can then adjust the height from under the table with the knob on the other end of the adjuster.

It is certainly cheaper that other router lifts but you can use these with plunge routers by simply locking the router at a given height.

I have just installed my plunge router on a lift. The handles needed to be taken off, as did the base plate. ( but that may depend on the type of lift ) Then plunge and lock the router and leave it that way.
No problems really.

I have been using a Jessem Router lift for the last 10 years. A great piece of kit. I use a digital height gauge for setting the bit height above table. It is often used with my Incra fence system.

+1 for the Router Raizer. Yes, it's expensive for what you get, and a lot of what you get is thrown away because you don't need it, but it does the job and does it very well. The only real downside is that it is an Imperial thread (1 turn = 1/16") so you need a little conversion gadget if you want to adjust it precisely in mm.
Good point about the access hole being covered by the fence. The cure is you mount your router on the plate with the handles fore and aft instead of port and starboard.
