+1 for the Router Raizer. Yes, it's expensive for what you get, and a lot of what you get is thrown away because you don't need it, but it does the job and does it very well. The only real downside is that it is an Imperial thread (1 turn = 1/16") so you need a little conversion gadget if you want to adjust it precisely in mm.
Good point about the access hole being covered by the fence. The cure is you mount your router on the plate with the handles fore and aft instead of port and starboard.
