Just when you thought you'd safely protected your PC along comes rootkits. These first came to light, as far as I am aware, when it was discovered that Sony were installing these as part of a program that you had to load onto your PC in order to play some of their CDs..in order to stop people copying their CDs.

Basically rootkits totally hide themselves away, normal anti-spyware/anti-virus stuff just don't see them. They are very, very, very difficult to track down and erase...if at all..sometimes a reformat is the only way.

Now, it would seem that rootkits are being adopted by spyware writers etc etc.

This link has some additional information. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1829744,00.asp

Have a nice weekend

Mac anyone?
