I have had to strip down my table saw to sort a couple of bits out- one of which was the sticky rise and fall mechanism. I foolishly put some oil on it when it was hard to move, having got out what dust I could. It must have caked the remaining dust together and it wouldn't budge at all. The net result was that it snapped the pin holding the metal gear onto a shaft which in turn attaches to the handle. Luckily, it has. Done no other damage and having seen the amount of crap in the inaccessible places, i am glad it is in pieces.

The pin is small. Do roll pins come only in standard sizes? I am hoping that kity would not have used a custome size. It is difficult to measure accurately but I am hoping that if I get a cheap kit, the right one will be one of them. Based on these sizes, I would think it is 2mm x 12.7mm. I guess I could put a 2mm drill shaft through to see if it fits.

In transporting the thing, I have damaged the back of the on off switch- I assume that they are easy enough to replace- I don't really like the one on it anyway and much prefer those that the front is an off button and you lift it up to access the on switch. Axi seem to do a range.

Cheers- I will look there. It is a latter stage to the rebuild, although I am hoping that reassembly can be done quite quickly. I don't like things in bits!

We have a big maintenance dept at work on metal machines, controllers etc. They will probably point me in the right direction for switches in the RS catalogue if I get stuck. I have always shied away from their catalogue because of the millions of options!

Ebay is a good source for small quantities of roll pins. 2 x 12 mm is a standard size. You really need a parallel pin punch to get the old one out, but they are difficult to find under ⅛" or 3 mm, so you might have to improvise with nail or screw. Make sure you grind the end flat and it's a good fit for the hole though, as if you punch anything down the central hole of the roll pin it will expand and then won't budge.
Toolstation sell a cheap nvr starter.

The old one fell out in 2 halves. I am not sure whether it was a roll pin but that would be my suggested replacement for it. I can't remember quite how it fits but I have a feeling that once it is in and reassembled, it can't go anywhere so may not have had to be a super tight fit.

Thanks for the links.
